Deadline to add TNT event set for Monday

Fri, 04/29/2016 - 3:47 pm

Plans are coming together for this summer’s TNT Fest and once again, organizers plan to make it bigger and better than the year before.

To give sufficient time for marketing and logistics planning, Jacksboro’s tourism coordinator Ashley MacDonald has put a deadline of May 2 for any organization that wishes to host an event during the festival.

Right now, activities already lined up for the day or weekend are a 50-team baseball tournament, bounce houses, volleyball tournament, horseshoe tournament, washers tournament, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, the Red, White and Blue Kids’ parade and Baby Beautiful Pageant.

There will also be a live band in the evening and fireworks to wrap out the June 25 extravaganza.

New this year will be a 15-ride carnival at the Twin Lakes Park Complex and a 5K race featuring 10 inflatable obstacles and finishing at the bottom of a 25-foot water slide located at the soccer fields and track area.

In the Twin Lakes Activity Center and the Jack County Youth Fair Barn will be Junk Utopia with vendors from far and wide offering vintage, repurposed, antique, boutique and handmade wares.

Also new this year, the Herald-Gazette will host a jalapeño eating contest with $300 going to the person who can eat the most jalapeños in three minutes.

Again this year, there will be food vendors, canoe rides and more.

For organizations that would like to add an event, booth or pitch in to help out with the festival, call MacDonald at City Hall, 940-567-6321.
