Countywide voting approved

Thu, 08/17/2017 - 6:11 pm

County Clerk Vanessa James gave an update on countywide voting, which was approved by the Secretary of State for a one year term beginning with the November 2017 election. James said training on the new machines will begin this week.

Intercivic Verity officials, which sold the machines to the county, will be providing the training and be available on the first day of early voting and Election Day to ensure things go smoothly.

James said wi-fi hotspots need to be created at the polling places in Perrin and Bryson. County IT Director Frank Hefner said an external antenna may be needed to set up a spot in Bryson.

After the elections, the county will need to reapply to the Secretary of State’s office to continue countywide voting, which allows residents of the county to vote anywhere within te county they choose and not only at their normal polling place.

Commissioners also approved putting a $1,961.58 refund check from the Texas Association of Counties Health & Employee Benefits Pool into the general fund.

In other news, Constable Clyde Watson gave a mid-year update on what his office had been doing. The office issued 75 citations and had collected $6,700 in fees, far above the $4,000 the office had budgeted in income.
