City looking to offer assistance with water, sewer issues

Wed, 09/23/2020 - 5:00 am

Jacksboro will be partnering with a company to offer voluntary assistance to those residents with water and sewer problems.

Dan Dansby with Home Sewer spoke to the council about the voluntary program residents can use for repairs on their water and sewer issues. Home Sewer works with 900 cities across North America and 42 here in Texas.

In the past, Dansby said in the past residents with issues would call the city with a utility problem, find it was not normally a city problem and the city had to be the bearer of bad news that the homeowner didn’t realize it was their problem.

Dansbvy said the company, which has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, will be sending letters to all residents with the City’s logo on them with the program. Local plumbers will be used to make repairs where available and the city will be contacted to determine if they have any interest in which ones are listed.

“We want the money to stay local,” Dansby said.”Some cities want certain plumbers listed and some cities decide to let us do it.”

A water problem will run $5.75, a sewer problem $7.75 and an in home problem will run $9.75 a month.

The coverage will run from $3,000 to $8,500 per incident and there’s no limit to the number of incidents and no deductible, Dansby explained.

Dansby said three letters or campaigns a year will be sent out in the Fall, Spring, and winter. Dansby said nothing will ever be mailed without consent and approval from the city.

Some of the city aldermen wanted to see a sample letter and make sure they approve it before entering into an agreement. A decision is expected at the next meeting Sept. 28.
