Tue, 03/31/2020 - 11:23 am

The United States Census Bureau provided an update on the response to census thus far and how the novel coronavirus pandemic is affecting the census.

The bureau noted in its press release that it was adjusting some operations to help protect the health and safety of its staff and public.

“In support of guidance on what we can all do to help slow the spread of coronavirus, 2020 Census field operations will be suspended until April 1, 2020,” the March 23 press release reads. “Accordingly, the Bureau has also extended the deadline for the public to self-respond until Aug. 14.”

All other dates regarding the Census has been delayed two weeks to a month, however the plan showed the bureau still planned on delivering appointment counts to the President by Dec. 31, as of Monday, March 23.

U.S. Census Bureau Partnership Specialist Eda Kosma also provided an update on the response rate of Jack County and said 16.5% of households had already returned their Census form.
