Candidate filing is underway

Wed, 07/31/2019 - 3:04 pm

Candidate filing is open for the Jack County Hospital District Board election.

This year there is only one board seat up for election and it is that currently held by member Shelley Owen.

The last day to file for a place on the Nov. 5 ballot is Monday, Aug. 19.

If the seat is uncontested, the board may cancel the election following that date.

Whether or not the hospital holds an election, voters will have a chance to go to the polls to decide 10 statewide ballot measures to amend the Texas Constitution.

Briefly, they are:

Proposition 1, allowing persons to serve as more than one appointed or elected municipal judge.

Proposition 2, allowing the Texas Water Development Board to issue up to $200 million in bonds.

Proposition 3, authorizing temporary property tax exemption for disaster areas.

Proposition 4, prohibiting the state from levying an income tax on individuals.

Proposition 5, dedicating revenue from the sales tax on sporting goods to parks, wildlife and historical agencies.

Proposition 6, authorizing the legislature to increase bonds for the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute.

Proposition 7, increasing distributions to the state school fund.

Proposition 8, creating a Flood Infrastructure Fund.

Proposition 9, authorizing property tax exemption for precious metals held in depositories.

And Proposition 10, allowing the transfer of law enforcement animals to handlers or others if in the animals best interest.
