Bryson plans for festival

Thu, 08/17/2017 - 6:16 pm

BRYSON – Council members approved a $3,500 budget for the Festival in the Park event scheduled for Oct. 7 during Monday night’s regular meeting.

It will be the second year of the event, which featured some gospel groups which brought a number of out of town guests from as far as Azle and Weatherford. Mayor Sheila Birdwell said there were possibly more people from out of town than residents at the event.

Last year’s event lost a slight amount of money but was an opportunity for community members to get together. City Secretary Frank Hefner said about $1,000-$1,100 was collected at the gate. The city spent about $2,700 on hamburgers and soft drinks while offering some money to the groups that attended.

“It was something for the community, which we don’t have a lot of,” Birdwell said. “It provided a chance r fellowship and drew out of towners here.”

This year the city is looking for sponsors for the event, which a start time has not been set for yet, last year’s event starting in the late afternoon. More details will be released in the coming weeks.
