The Jack County Sheriff’s Office and Jack County Wise Hope banded together to bring a martial arts legend to Jacksboro.

Bob Nuttall, 10th Degree Black Belt and owner of The Karate University in Weatherford, taught a women’s self-defense class at the Swan Wellness Center on Oct. 22. Nuttall is one of a select group of 10th degree black belts in the world, which include names like American Karate inventor J. Pat Burleson and cinema icon Chuck Norris.

Nuttall said he was approached by long-time friend, Jack County Sheriff Tom Spurlock, about teaching a class on basic self-defense.

“I’ve known Tom for many years,” Nuttall said. “His son used to be in my classes. When he called and asked me to do this class there wasn’t a hesitation in my mind.”

Wise Hope said they reached out to the Sheriff’s office and said they wanted to do a self-defense class. Wise Hope Executive Director Janice Watkins said Spurlock  immediately brought up Nuttall’s name.  She said the class was a great lesson on how much power women have.
