BISD approves district improvement plan

Tue, 09/28/2021 - 9:28 am

School officials at Bryson ISD identified four priorities and adopted the 2021-2022 district improvement plan during their Monday, Sept. 20 board meeting.

The board discussed STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) testing and how to possibly raise test scores.

The four priorities include:
• Increasing the percentage of 6th grade students scoring at ‘Meets Grade Level’ in STAAR reading and math;
• Increasing the percentage of 5th grade students at ‘Approaches Grade Level’ in STAAR reading and math;
• Ensuring every senior receives a CCMR (College, Career and Military Readiness) credit. The district as a whole hopes to increase that from 71% to 90% by May 2022; and
• Maximizing additional support given to RTI (Response to Intervention) reading and math at all K-8 grade levels.

BISD Superintendent Greg London said the district is focusing on helping students dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. One student has not been in school for three weeks, because their whole family has tested positive.
