Birdwell made Nortex chair

Mayor Sheila Birdwell of Bryson has been elected as the chair of Nortex Regional Planning Commission for the next year. The executive committee of Nortex Regional Planning Commission at its regular monthly board meeting in September elected Birdwell to serve in this capacity for the commission. Other officer appointments for the upcoming year include Judge Karl Holloway of Cottle County as vice-chair, Mayor Howard Raeke of Henrietta as secretary and Judge Rick Lewis of Montague County as past chair.

Nortex Regional Planning Commission is a voluntary association of the local governments within an 11 county region in North Texas. Mayor Birdwell has been an active member of Nortex Regional Planning Commission representing the City of Bryson in the past. Nortex Regional Planning Commission administers programs for community development, services for the elderly, 9-1-1 planning, solid waste planning, law enforcement planning, homeland security, homeless prevention, economic development, etc.  

The Commission controls approximately $11 million in federal and state programs on an annual basis within this region.
