The holiday season is nearly upon us and Jacksboro Lions Club members are hoping to make it a joyous one for all, one meal at a time.

The Lions Club, in cooperation with Four Stars Ford, Lowe’s Market and the Jacksboro Community Food Pantry, will host its annual Pack the Pickup from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 through Friday, Nov. 1 at Lowe’s Market.

Club members, along with volunteers and Leo’s Club members, will be on hand to take donations of both food and cash during the listed times. Any nonperishable food items are welcome, but suggested ones include tuna helper, chicken noodle or vegetable beef soup, macaroni and cheese, rice, pasta, beans, jelly, pancake mix, syrup, canned meats, chicken and dumplings, ravioli and vienna sausages and snack items such as Pop-Tarts, snack cakes and more.

Lions Club spokesperson Tim Cassle said the club  raised nearly 3,000 pounds for the pantry a year ago. Cassle wanted to remind the public that cash donations are also being accepted.

Other organizations are helping the Jacksboro Lions Club in collecting food for the pantry. In the past, Lindsey State Jail has helped along with Jacksboro Elementary and Jacksboro High School students.
