JHS online registration opens

For students that will be enrolled in grades 9-12 for the 2017-18 school year at Jacksboro High School, parents need to login to Family Access and click on the tab, “Online Registration”.  Update your child’s information and sign the required forms electronically and submit.  A green check mark will appear beside each step as it is completed.  Make sure and click on the Complete Online Registration.

You may also change the language translation of the forms in the right hand corner.

Perrin welcomes new principal

PERRIN – Coming back to where you started can have rewards sometimes.

After spending a year in Jacksboro, April Richardson came back to Perrin last year, where she had taught for more than a decade, to take a counseling position. This year, Richardson moves up the chain once again, taking over as principal at the junior high/high school campus after Karrie Wilhoit decided to go back to the classroom after one year as principal.

County conservation partners to host local work group meeting

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Texas’ Jack County and the Jack Soil and Water Conservation District cordially invite the public to attend their FY17 Local Working Group meeting from noon to 2 p.m. August 10 at the Jack County Fair Barn, 1072 State Hwy. 59, Jacksboro.

The purpose of this annual LWG meeting is to set local conservation priorities and bring conservation stakeholders together to discuss conservation topics and issues relevant to helping Jack County farmers and ranchers better conserve on-farm natural resources.  

Stomp receives wind farm donation

Members of the STOMP - Standing Together on Meth Prevention board of directors Joe Mitchell, Sharon Robinson and Linda Bennett accepted a donation from Courtney Irwin of Avangrid Renewables - Barton Chapel Wind Farm at the organization’s meeting Friday, July 21.STOMP is heavily involved in all Jack County schools in spreading the word on the dangers of methamphetamines and staying away from them. The organization is comprised of parents, law enforcement and community members. 

Teacher pursues picking passion

Retirement has not slowed Kelly Williams down at all. The 56-year-old retired Jacksboro kindergarten teacher finished her 34-year career at the end of the school year and now spends her time pursuing another passion — junking.

For the last 2 1/2 years, Williams and her husband, Wesley, also a retired teacher, have been sifting through garage sales, barns, you name it, all over the area to find treasures, then reselling them.

Military veteran farm tour set for Aug. 4-5 in Dallas

DALLAS – The Texas AgrAbility program of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present a back-to-back farm tour and workshop in Dallas.

The activities, to be held at different locations, are oriented to veterans but also open to beginning farmers and ranchers as well as individuals with disabilities, coordinators said.

The farm tour will be 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at Bonton Farms, 6905 Bexar St. The cost for the tour is $20 and includes food and drinks. To register, go to http://bit.ly/2tNCfC4.
