Live Like Johnny organization awards eight Texas FFA members

The Live Like Johnny Organization, a Jacksboro nonprofit organization, has announced the eight recipients of its 2017 “Jackets From Johnny” program. The program rewards deserving Texas FFA with a new and personalized jacket — a signature component of the FFA brand. Students were selected from Perrin, Paradise, Jacksboro and Iowa Park FFA chapters and represent the more than 119,000 Texas FFA members. 

Jack County gives gifts

Jack County Toys for Tots and Jacksboro ISD's Candy Cane Club distributed Christmas gifts for children this week. 

Toys for Tots distributed toys for 360 children Saturday and Sunday and was still fulfilling Christmas wishes for those in need Thursday afternoon.

Volunteers with the Candy Cane Club helped more than 120 families and children throughout Jack County with gifts this Christmas Season. The families picked up the donated items Wednesday morning.

Wellness Center offers incentive to stop smoking

The Great American Smokeout is coming up on Nov. 16, and Faith Community Hospital is offering the community an opportunity to help smokers kick their unhealthy habit. From now through Nov. 30, the hospital is offering free one-month memberships to the Swan Family Wellness Center when new members turn-in their cigarettes and sign up for a one-year membership.

Legacy Texas makes donation

Legacy Texas employees present a check for $4,000 to Sheri Kettlety of the Jacksboro Community Food Pantry as a contribution to the organization’s endeavors to help meet the needs of individuals in our town. This is the fourth consecutive  year that the bank has made a donation to the JCFP. “Our bank has always and will continue to be an active contributor of funds and involvement in various organizations and their  activities, which  assists in making our community a better place for its residents,” said Tim Cassle, Legacy Texas president.

JHS courtyard nears completion

Jacksboro FFA member Hunter Hackley’s vision for a memorial courtyard to honor deceased JHS students and faculty is quickly becoming a reality. 

Hackley is also a Texas FFA Ford Leadership Scholar which requires him to create and complete a community service project. Hackley’s service project is to erect a courtyard at Jacksboro High School to honor deceased students, alumni, and teachers of Jacksboro ISD. 

JHS awarded Region 9 book grant

Jacksboro High School freshman English teacher Susan Coley was the recipient of a gift for her classroom just in time for the new school year.

Coley received a trunk full of books to be used by freshmen English 1 literature students. In the trunk were multiple copies of several current young adult fiction and nonfiction titles.

“Students will be able to pick books they would like to read and discuss with classmates,” Coley said. 

Workshop for farm, ranch women coming up in Stephenville

STEPHENVILLE – New U.S. census data indicates the number of Texas women managing farms has grown by 10 percent since 2007, and a nationally awarded workshop series is scheduled for Stephenville to help empower them through shared experiences, according to an expert.

Annie’s Project is an educational program dedicated to strengthening women’s roles in modern farm and ranch enterprises, said Dr. Jason Johnson, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service economist, Stephenville.
