Fond memories make coming home special for Hall, Fulbright

School was a big part of a child’s life 50 years ago which led to fond memories of all the high school graduates.

Such was the case of the Class of 1970, who have similar mindsets to the Class of 2020, as they were graduating into turmoil: The Class of 1970 in the midst of the Vietnam War and the Class of 2020 COVID.

Coming Home Queen Paula Garner Hall said that having school be a huge part of life and the kids into all sorts of clubs and activities the students were able to stay out of trouble. Having a football team that lost in the state semifinals was also big.

“Everyone got behind the team,” Hall said. “The schools was a part of everyone’s life.

Coming Home King George Fulbright was a member of that team said that the team wasn’t even expected to get out of district, as only the district champion went on to the playoffs.

“We were picked third or fourth in the district as that was supposed to be a rebuilding year,” Fulbright said. “We beat Decatur in the final two minutes by going 80 yards to win district.”

Hall was head cheerleader, involved with student council, Future Business Leaders of America, Who’s Who in America and named Most Courteous. Along with football, Fulbright was involved in basketball and golf along with FBLA, FA and the Future Teachers of America along with the Vocational Educators of America.

Jacksboro was wonderful for a number of reasons during that time.

“Jacksboro was outstanding during that time,” Fulbright said. “We were top of the line in athletics and UIL events. Band and choir were great too.”
