Two Jacksboro track athletes who have had their sights set on state competition will see their dreams realized this week.

Seniors Kirk Weldon and DJ Thomas have been working toward making it to the Track and Field State Meet for years.

Weldon will compete in the shot put and discus and Thomas will compete in the long jump.

Both performed their personal best at the Regional meet in Odessa. Weldon threw 55’5” in shot and 173 in discus.

Weldon said looking at what other athletes are throwing around the state, it’s a good possibility he’ll bring home the gold.

This is Thomas’ first year to compete in jumping sports. He also competed in the high jump.
