Kirk Weldon will enter the Regional Meet as the Area Champion in the Discus and the Shot Put.
Weldon has dominated track meets throughout the year for the Tigers. Coach Don Rodie describes Weldon as “a very dedicated track athlete who spends a tremendous amount of hours after practice perfecting his technique. His accolades of District and Area Champion show that.”
Laken Plaster was not only the Area Champion in the Shot Put, but she also set a school record with a throw of 39 feet ¾ inches.
Rodie is especially proud of the way that Plaster balances her time in two sports.
“Laken, who splits time with softball and track, has had a great track career. She has been District champion for two years and is now an Area Champion. In addition, she has been a Regional Qualifier in consecutive years. Both of these champions have an outstanding chance of advancing to the State level. I am so excited for all our athletes that have advanced.”
Weldon will compete in the shot put and the discus Friday morning. D.J. Thomas will join him in the discus competition.
Plaster will also compete in the shot put on Friday morning and Jared Lamberson will test his skills in the triple jump Friday morning as well.
The sprint relay team of Thomas, Reid Spiller, Daniel Mabbit and David Stretcher will run in the preliminaries at 3 p.m., Friday afternoon.
Kyle Clark will run in the 400 meter preliminary race Friday afternoon and in the last preliminary race of the day, the 1600 meter relay team of Mabbit, Stretcher, Clark and Thomas will compete. Stretcher will compete in the long jump Saturday morning.
Kelsey Laake and Jacob Bridges will compete in the 800 meter run Saturday afternoon and Jacob Bridges will participate in the 1600 meter run Saturday afternoon as well. Both relay teams will hope to have qualified for the finals, which will be held Saturday afternoon as well.
