After a week of conditioning, walk throughs and film sessions, the Jacksboro Tigers finally got to take the field for some live action at the annual Purple/White scrimmage Saturday morning.
Jacksboro Head Coach Brian Hodnett led 26 varsity players and 27 Junior Varsity players in the intra-squad scrimmage that was the culmination of a very successful first week of practice.
A nice crowd was on hand to watch as this year's team ran several offensive and defensive series while the coaches instructed the players on how to line up and play the various positions.
Some plays even saw the coaches playing quarterback so that all players could have the opportunity to work on other positions.
Hodnett's commented, "Today was a typical first scrimmage. There were plenty of things to get excited about, but there are still plenty of things to work on, including conditioning."
Optimism is high for a successful year for the Tigers. The team will be counting on the leadership of this year's seniors Reid Spiller, Logan Dixon, Ryan Cross, Jeffrey Cooley, Jared Lamberson, Tyler Steel, Colton Owen, Nathan Zapata, and sideline help from Christian Botello.
Hodnett, who is beginning his second full year as the head coach at Jacksboro, and his staff echo this enthusiasm. Following the scrimmage Hodnett acknowledged that "this year's team has a better grasp of things than they did at this time last year."
The Tigers will play host to Petrolia in a scrimmage at Tiger Stadium Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
