I love the people in this town. Some of you may or may not know about our group here in town, so let me tell you a little about us. We are the Friends of the Jacksboro Animal Shelter. We work close to Star Kinder, the animal control officer. We are however a separate entity.

We are a small group, but we are determined to make a difference for the precious animals that come to the shelter. Despite our size, I believe we are turning into a great force to love and protect every dog and cat that comes to the shelter. Mark and Diann McBryde and their two children and spouses — Jesse and Keith Miller and Preston and Sarah McBryde, come to the shelter most weekends and take the animals to adoptions. They travel to Mineral Wells, Wichita Falls, Graham and any other place where an adoption is scheduled. They have helped adopt out most of the shelter animals for the last two years. I thank God daily for this family. Throughout the year we do fundraisers.

On Valentines day, we set up an adoption in front of the courthouse and had a bake sale. What happened the day before this event, brings tears to my eyes.
We mentioned the fundraiser on Facebook and before we knew it, people were calling to help. The owners and employees at the Main Street Bistro along with Big Brothers and Big Sisters started baking. Before we knew it, they had the tables in the Bistro covered in cookies, cakes and other baked goods.

In no time, they had sold almost $200 worth.

The day of the event, we transported five adult dogs and some puppies from the shelter. The fire department lent us their big sign and the event was on. All but one dog was adopted and we sold every single baked good. It was a great day.
The only thing that would have made it better would have been if we could have gotten that last beautiful dog adopted, the mother of the puppies that were adopted. If anyone is interested please call (940) 393-9408. She's a beautiful, German shepherd mix.

Again, the Friends would like to thank Main Street Bistro, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, the Jacksboro Fire Department, Cherry at the newspaper for stopping by and taking some pictures of the event, the members of the Friends of the Jacksboro Animal Shelter, Star Kinder and most of all, the sweet people of this town for adopting so many of our animals that day. We love you all so much. Thank you for making this a great success.
