This week, I will be traveling to Round Rock, TX, along with the student ministry at Live Oak Baptist Church and First Baptist Church Petrolia.
We are off to serve the children and staff at Texas Baptist Children's Home. The Home operates under an open campus, housing several 'cottages.'
Each cottage houses up to eight same-sex children. These cottages operate similar to any other family.
The cottage family eats their meals together, the children are assigned daily chores and study time, and each cottage family takes family outings on a regular basis.
I'm excited to see what God will do through us throughout the week as we make ourselves available to serve in this ministry.
2 Timothy 2:15 tells us to, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth," (ESV). Just as this verse says, we aim this week to present ourselves to God as unashamed workers.
This week, our group will be doing campus projects such as hanging blinds, painting and doing yard work along with other needs around the cottages.
We will also be leading in games and activities for the Home's HOPE Program.
The HOPE Program serves families through apartment ministries around the community.
Throughout the week, we will also be taking part in nightly worship and bible study, having a prayer walk around the Children's Home Campus and helping out at a local clothes closet.
In Colossians it says, "And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him," Paul and Timothy add, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,"(Colossians 3:17, 23, ESV). This week; every activity we take part in, it is a priority that it be done in the name of Jesus.
It truly is a remarkable thing to be able to see the young people of today taking part in missions.
Last week, First Baptist Church of Jacksboro went up to Indiana to participate in a World Changers student mission project. First Baptist of Jacksboro is also going to Falls Creek Baptist Camp this week where they will be soaking up the word of God daily.
The world needs the youth of today to make a change.
To have groups from Jacksboro go and live out the gospel is such a blessing.
If you would this week, join Live Oak Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in prayer for our students.
Pray that God will give them the strength to live out his will, and pray that they may do so in the name of Jesus.
