McGrath: Staff should live in district

Thu, 07/21/2016 - 6:05 pm

PERRIN – Some residents want to make sure new Perrin ISD officials live in the district they work in.

Kevin McGrath, co-owner of Mitchell Resort and RV Park, presented a letter to the board during Tuesday night’s board meeting stating the business wants to help the district but only to  be helped in return. McGrath and co-owner Doris Reed feel it’s only “reasonable” that staff members live in the district.

“Not in the city of Perrin necessarily but somewhere in the district itself would be fine,” McGrath said.

The district is in the process of hiring a new superintendent and high school principal after former high school principal David Tarver took an assistant superintendent position with the Mineral Wells ISD. In a related note, Elementary Principal Amy Salazar was selected interim K-12 principal until a hiring can be made.

In other news, an item regarding a sewer system problem at the school was tabled until both School Board President Mike Withaeger and Interim Superintendent W.R. Tucker have a chance to walk the property and determine what to do next.
