Dedicated Republican women from Jack County met to re-organize the local chapter of Federated Republican Women with more than 30 in attendance July 22.
“Ever since Texas statehood in 1845, women have ought on some level to further the values of the GOP,” said Jack County Republican Chair Sharon VanBaale. “They were dubbed ‘Iron Jawed Angels’ by President Wilson and 90 years ago, on August 18, 1920, the 19th amendment to the Constitution was ratified.” VanBaale gave a short presentation on the history of the Repubican Party in Jack County and circulated a roster to secure signatures to formally recognize the group again.
In her address, Borah Van Dormolen, Texas Committeewoman to the National Republican Party encouraged the group to be tenacious in the endeavor to “take back our country.” “With the creation of the National Federation of Republican Women in 1938,” a message was sent to Washington that we were going to be a powerful force in politics.” In 1955, the Texas Federation of Republican Women was the most powerful political organization in the United States, according to Van Dormolen. Following a video presentation, which included sound bites from Sarah Palin encouraging the country to take back its values, Van Baale opened the floor for discussion. “Encourage your neighbors, friends and others to come to our next meeting,” said VanBaale. The next meeting for Jack County Republican Women is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Jacksbor National Bank Community Room on N. Church Street.
The order of business will be electing permanent officers, voting on by-laws, and setting dues. |
