Members of the Jack County Historical Commission organized and elected officers at their first monthly meeting July 16 at the Jack County Courthouse.
Newly elected president Jess Elmore serves with vice president Frances Easter and secretary/treasurer Melinda Perkins.
Other appointed members of the Commission include Alinda Cox, Roger Sharp, Charles Bush and Judge Mitchell Davenport.

As a part of the meeting, Judge Davenport presented an overview of proposed operations of the group, which is overseen by the Jack County Commissioner’s Court. As such, the Historical Commission is an “arm” of county government and one of it’s first steps was to list projects which could benefit from the experience and organization of its members.
One project suggested was a program to identify and place markers at all county sites of historic one-room school houses. Another project which may require a coordinated effort with County Commissioners is to apply for recognition on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Following the oath of office, members adopted a set of proposed bylaws and discussed available training by the Texas Historical Commission and online training to meet the requirements of the Open Records Act.
Members also discussed the addition of a seventh member and names will be considered at the next public meeting which is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. at the Jack County Courthouse.
