Jack County Wildlife Management Association will hold its quarterly meeting at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at the newly remodeled Jack County Youth Fair Barn on Highway 59.
Everyone with an interest in wildlife and land management is invited to attend. In addition to officer elections, several dynamic and interesting speakers are scheduled.
Jack County Judge Mitchell Davenport will give a short briefing on the new Community Notification Service called Nixle recently launched by the Jack County Department of Emergency Management. This service is designed to improve communications with the people who live, work and visit in Jack County. “Americas Most Wanted,” the Purple Martin, will be the subject of speaker Ron Bailey. Those who have never attended one of Bailey’s workshops, “How to Attract and Care for Purple Martins,” in the Forestburg area are in for a treat. “If you have an interest in attracting, maintaining or improving your care of Purple Martins, then you must plan on attending,” urge JCWMA directors. The last speaker will be Jennifer Barrow, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologist. She is an engaging speaker who will present information about quail and dove in addition to providing her perspective on the results of new antler regulations that went into effect at the beginning of last year’s deer season. There will be complementary hotdogs, chips and iced tea available during the meeting. JCWMA hats, gate signs, and survival guides will also be available for purchase. Jack County Wildlife Management Association is a nonprofit organization formed Feb. 17, 2001, with the intent of promoting a voluntary countywide-and-beyond cooperative effort to help improve Jack County’s habitat and wildlife through education and sound management practices.
