Cherry Rushin has joined the staff at Jacksboro Newspapers as editor of the Jacksboro Gazette-News and Jack County Herald. Since 2008, Rushin has been a staff reporter and photographer for The Graham Leader, in Graham. She succeeds Pam Hudson, who will remain with Jacksboro Newspapers while completing a graduate degree in counseling. Hudson has served as editor since January, 2011, having previously served as a reporter. "I am so pleased that we are able to remain inside the company and bring a seasoned journalist to Jacksboro," said Robb Krecklow, vice president of Graham Newspapers, Inc. and publisher of the Jacksboro and Graham newspapers. "I'm also grateful that Pam will remain with us for a short while in transition and be available to introduce Cherry to the community." During her tenure in Graham, Rushin covered education, local government, and a variety of important issues and activities. She has received several peer honors for her reporting and photography, placing in the journalist of the year competition with the West Texas Press Association and North and East Texas Press Association. Rushin earned a bachelor's degree in English at West Texas A&M University. Before joining the Leader, she worked for the Amarillo Public Library and the Olney and Newcastle ISDs as a substitute teacher. Rushin's husband, Brian, has spent 10 years in the oil and gas industry and recently graduated from North Central Texas College with an associate's degree in petroleum technology. Rushin is a stepmother to three children - Alexia, 14, Sara, 12, and Jacob, 10. The family plans to relocate to Jacksboro before the new year.
