Two make A&M's Dean's List

Texas A&M University has named its honor students for the summer semester, recognizing them for outstanding academic performance. 

The Dean’s Honor Roll recognizes students taking at least 12 semester hours during the summer semester who have maintained a 3.75 or higher grade point (GPR) out of a possible 4.0.

Among those recognized were sophomore Katelin Bailey of Jacksboro. Bailey is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences.

Concerned Citizens reports donations

Concerned Citizens has received several donations. Donating to the general fund were the Devon Energy Employees, Norvill Construction, Darla Jackson, Billy and Janice Pursley, Delta Kappa Gama, Jerry and Tracey Graybill, Gail and Mike Bialas, Dorothy Prunty, and Jean Henderson. The Southwest Baptist Church gives a monthly mission donation to the center. The Lord’s Acre gave for the centers upkeep.

Big Brothers Big Sisters host Lego competition

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jack County hosted a Lego contest Wednesday afternoon at the Main Street Bistro Courtyard.

Approximately 40 children participated by building structures out of Legos and submitting their creations for judging.

The winning Lego builder was Judit Herrera. She won an air hockey table.

All participants received a set of Legos.

Chamber selects Farris Surveying as June spotlight

The Jacksboro Chamber of Commerce has selected Clinton Farris, RPLS Surveying and Mapping as its Chamber Spotlight for July.

The nomination stated: “They are an awesome part of the Jacksboro businesses located on the square. Their windows are interesting for those passing by, enhancing the look of downtown. Their customer care is also excellent. They support all Chamber events and activities. They are a business that helps ‘Make Jacksboro Better’.

Antelope Homecoming reservation deadline Wednesday

The Antelope Ex-Students Association Homecoming will begin with registration at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 24 at the Antelope Community Center. A catered meal will be served at 12:30 p.m. Lunch tickets will be $12 per plate. Reservations must be received by Wednesday, July 20. Purchased tickets can be picked up the day of homecoming. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

President Edward (Shine) Leach will welcome everyone then give the invocation. Following lunch the class of 1966 will be recognized.

Educators participate in convention

More than 1,000 key women educators attended The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International’s 87th Texas State Convention June 23-25, 2016, at the Frisco Convention Center in Frisco, Texas. Local educators attending the convention from the Lambda Rho Chapter were Dr. Liz Spears, state communications/publicity committee member; Terri Stretcher, outgoing chapter president; and Peggy Clayton, incoming chapter president. Dr. Spears is head of the math department, student council sponsor, and testing coordinator for Jacksboro High School. Terri Stretcher is the Jacksboro Middle School counselor.

Hood competes at FBLA nationals

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference was held June 29th-July 2nd in Atlanta, GA.More than 9,380 participants from across the United States and abroad attended this exciting conference to enhance their business skills, expand their networks, and participate in more than 65 business and business-related competitive events.
