Landon Lewis receives his calf scramble certificate during the 2016 Fort Worth Stock Show.

A $2,500 scholarship was recently awarded to Landon Lewis of Jacksboro FFA by the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Calf Scramble Scholarship Committee. Lewis’ parents are Greg and Jenilynn Lewis.

Participation in the 2016 Fort Worth Stock Show Calf Scramble program made Lewis eligible for the scholarship program. Fifty-four youth shared in $226,000 in Calf Scramble scholarship dollars.

Lewis’ scholarship was the result of the hard work and dedication necessary to complete the rigorous Calf Scramble program. After catching a calf during a 2015 Stock Show rodeo performance, participants began their Calf Scramble journey. These youth utilized Stock Show funds to purchase a heifer that they brought to the 2016 Stock Show for exhibition. Besides showing their heifer, monthly reports and a final essay were required to remain eligible for scholarship consideration. Meeting shortly after the 2016 Show, the Scholarship Committee awarded Lewis’ scholarship.

Sponsors for Lewis’ scholarship include: McKinght Title; Jake Richter/Edward Jones Investments; John Robertson; Sarita Capital Partners; and TFW Industrial & CNC Machine LLC.

Lewis’ Beefmaster heifer project was sponsored by Holiday Chevrolet/Ford.

The 2017 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo is scheduled for January 13 through February 4. Rodeo tickets are available both online and by mail order.
