Jacksboro High School will host a planning night for Jacksboro eighth grade students from 6-7:15 p.m. Thursday, May 1 in the school auditorium.
House Bill 5 (HB5), passed in the last state legislative session, has changed high school graduation requirements for current eighth grade students who will enter ninth grade in the 2014-2015 school year and graduate beginning in 2018.
HB5 requires that each student and their parent develop and confirm a Personal Graduation Plan (PGP) to set a career focus and guide the student through high school course work. As part of the PGP, the student must select a program of study that will earn an endorsement in one of five areas set by the state.
In order to help parents and students understand the new PGP, Jacksboro ISD is offering a parent information meeting Thursday May 1 in the auditorium. This meeting will provide details pertaining to new graduation requirements and give participants an opportunity to ask questions. Parents should attend the meetings with their 8th grade student at the middle school. However, parents who cannot attend the meeting are welcome to call Dori Taylor at the high school and set up a time to meet with her during the days of May 12-14.
