Jimmy “Possum” Walker is hosting the Barbecue Blow Out Bash fundraiser for Guardians of the Children from noon to 8 p.m. May 4 at NOS Bar, 240 W Main St, Azle.
There will be several types of entertainment such as live music by Spencer Elliott, Cami Maki, Bill Bear, and Cody Dell Akridge. Larry Joe Taylor will have an intimate acoustic set for additional cost. There will also be live and silent auctions, BBQ Cook Off, Car and Motorcycle Show, Belt Sander Races and a bike\car wash.
The Guardians of the Children is a 501(c)3 organization that is involved with empowering children in abusive situations. One way they provide support is being present when these children testify against their perpetrators.
“When a child is on the stand testifying and they can look out and see about 50 of us bikers, fully decked out in our leathers standing side-by-side in support of them, the child feels a large sense of protection and it gives them courage,” Walker said.
They work closely with other organizations to ensure children have everything they need in order to have a childhood. They provide beds, food, clothing, transportation and other services. This organization is geared solely to the better well-being of abused children and work hard to make a difference.
Unfortunately, Walker said the group is overwhelmed with the demand for assistance and reaching out for the community’s help. Anyone who wishes to volunteer or donate can contact Walker at (940) 452-8894. The Guardians are needing car and motorcycle entries for the car and bike show, as well as, event sponsors and the use of barbecue pits. The goal is to have 30 barbecue pits to feed the expected 800 people who will attend. Only 12 have been acquired so far. Walker said anyone who can help should give him a call.
The group also has an online donation page at www.gocsteelhorses.com.
