Venturing Crew 1872 “F” Troop, a Boy Scouts of America program comprised of youth ages 14 to 21 along with adult guides and supervisors, will perform a flag retirement ceremony at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30 at Fort Richardson’s Group Dining Hall, 602 Depot St. in Jacksboro.
Any community member with flags needing to be properly disposed of may bring them to the ceremony or drop them by the fort office during regular business hours. For more information on flag retirement, contact Ray Monroe at (940) 567-3506.
Crew 1872 specializes as a living history program focused on the Civil War and Indian Wars Era. This crew represents a Federal Cavalry dismounted company such as those who served at Fort Richardson during the Indian Wars campaign which followed the Civil War from 1865 through 1875.
This focus allows them to bring history to life for thousands of spectators. Crew 1872 attends and participates in events not only in Texas, but throughout the nation during this 150th anniversary of the Civil War. They have already attended national events such as the Battle of Vicksburg, Miss. and Gettysburg, Penn.
Most members of the Venturing Crew 1872 live in the Dallas and Fort Worth area, but they have crew members from across the Lone Star State. If you are interested in joining or supporting the program, visit their website at www.crew1872.org or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
