Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center will host a purple balloon release at 3:45 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the bell on the Jack County Courthouse lawn in recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The center is asking community members to show their support by joining in this observance. In 2012, Texas law enforcement agencies reported a total of 177,983 family violence incidents across the state. Texas Crisis Centers fielded a reported 207,510 Hotline calls from victims seeking aid and advice on escaping a violent situation. According to a press release from Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center, current numbers report 324,000 Texas women have been victims of abuse. That formulates to three women victims every day in Texas. Although it's true that the majority of victims are women, it is also true that men find themselves victimized, too.
