Construction in Jacksboro is gaining according to building permits issued by the city.

The total valuation of projects permits were issued for in 2012 was $1.07 million for 126 projects. In 2013, the total valuation of projects was $3.3 million for 176 projects.

For the first half of 2014, the valuation is $14 million for 98 projects.

The biggest months seen were October 2013 with a value of $1.53 million for 15 projects and April 2014 with a value of $13.54 million for 12 projects.

City Manager Mike Smith said the bulk of those values are from two construction projects — The Bank of Jacksboro and the new Faith Community Hospital facility.

He said he can only think of two new residences built in the two years since he has been city manager.
The rest of the permits have been for renovation or repairs.

But he expects more new construction on the horizon.
