Brenda Tarpley announced Thursday that she has resigned her position as the executive director of the Jacksboro Chamber of Commerce after more than 3 years of service.

She will leave the chamber at the end of next month to take a position with the City of Jacksboro handling human resources and tourism.

The Jacksboro City Council approved the creation of the new position at its last meeting with a vote to separate human resources duties from the position of city finance director.

Tarpley said the new position will allow more focused attention to the promotion of Jacksboro's tourism locations, entities and events.
She believes her new position will be vital in ways that go hand in hand with the chamber's mission.

Tarpley is a certified tourism executive through the Texas Travel Industry Association. She hopes to use her expertise to lure visitors and tourism dollars to the area.

The visitors' center will continue to be located at the chamber and Tarpley will continue to work closely with the new executive director once that position is filled.

The chamber is currently accepting applications with a deadline of Jan. 24.
