At the August 14 meeting of the Lions Club, president Clint Myrick introduced the new Lion Sweetheart, Ranzy Sanders, a senior at Jacksboro High School. He also reported that the Pack the Bus fund raiser resulted in Lions collecting between $1500 - $1750 worth of school supplies. The First Annual School Fair was also a success with about 200 backpacks being distributed to Jack County students. Upcoming Lions Club fund raisers include the Jump-a-thon to be held at Jacksboro Elementary School the week of September 23 and the Lamb and Goat Show that 4-H and Lions Club will co-sponsor on September 21 at the Youth Barn. JISD Athletic Director, Brian Hodnett, was the main speaker at the meeting. He began by reporting that a record 1,000+ Tiger cards were sold in only five days, and that this money goes into the general athletic fund. Coach Hodnett gave an over-all picture of this year's team, with 23 players on the varsity team and 21 of those being seniors. Only two are juniors, which makes for an exciting year this year, and a somewhat scary prospect for next year. He mentioned that UIL rules have changed for two-adays which means they can't exceed 5 hours a day.
