Bryson Varsity Cowgirls hosted the "Small School Shoot-Out" Tournament Thursday, Aug. 16 and Saturday, Aug. 18 with 12 teams competing, including Bryson, DeLeon, Forestburg, Goldburg, Graford, Gustine, Harrold, Millsap, Moran, Mullin, Saint Jo, and Woodson.
Thursday, Bryson won their pool to advance to the Gold bracket. In their first game against Moran, the Cowgirls won 25 - 10 and 25 -8.
Their second game was against Forestburg and the girls won 25 - 11 and 25 - 23. The third game was against Gustine and the girls won 25 - 13 and 25 - 17.
Saturday proved to be more difficult for the Cowgirls ending out the gold bracket with two wins and a loss. In their game against Millsap, the girls lost 18 - 25 and 20 - 25.
"Millsap is a very talented team. They have a lot of tall, aggressive hitters that challenged us defensively," said Coach Faulk.
In their second game against Mullin, the girls won 25 - 18 and 25 - 18. In their third game against Harrold, the girls won 25 - 16 and 25 - 18.
Bryson made their way to the Consolation Championship match to face off against Forestburg, where they lost 20 - 25 and 20 - 25.
Coach Faulk said, "I believe my girls were mentally and physically drained by the time they started this match. They played four matches between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. with this match being right after the Harrold match.
For the tournament, Lydia Keyser had 50 kills, 8 aces, 12 blocks, 42 assists, and 31 service points.
Kaycee Maddox had 43 kills, 9 aces, and 35 service points.
Avery Robinson had 17 kills, 10 aces, and 31 service points.
Katie Sherrin had 6 kills, 10 aces, 4 blocks, and 47 service points.
Rebecca Goodman had 10 aces and 24 service points.
Ashten Wiedebusch had 5 kills and 3 service points.
Kim Hauger had 3 kills, 3 aces, 72 assists, and 21 service points.
Demi Butler had 4 kills and 3 aces.
Being named to the All-Tournament team was Kaycee Maddox.
